By Ken Austin Wild roses, of the genus Rosa, are those naturally occurring natives found in Northern Hemispheres around the globe. Wild Roses can be found in forests, canyons, logged wastelands and thickets. They have continued to grow throughout the course of history and across a range of different terrains. Most modern day roses we know are mixed offspring of these wild roses. Wild roses have had a rich history. They played roles in Greek and Roman culture, symbolizing themes such as love and allegiance. Later they became sought after for cosmetic, medicinal and religious purposes as well. However, with the beginnings of large-scale worldwide trade, rose horticulture and hybridization took root. This forever changed the wild rose landscape from a relatively small number of wild roses across the planet's surface to today's world with thousands-upon-thousands of rose varieties. There are plenty of advantages to cultivating wild roses in modern-day rose gardens. Wild roses are strong, disease resistant plants, which can be grown in almost any less-than-ideal location. They are not dependent on regular fertilization and can tolerate some drought. Requiring essentially no care, wild roses are able to spread on their own, can handle being crowded and withstand transplanting at almost any time of year. Some popular varieties of wild roses include: Rosa Nutkana
An arching shrub with pink petals, the rosa nutkana grows in milder climates. Though it is fairly weather-tolerant, this shrub is best cultivated in sunny and well-drained locations. Prune often as thickets grow quite quickly. Rosa Rugosa
This species, native to China, Korea and Japan, has been made into a number of different rose cultivars. It is a fast growing pink flower with rose-hips resembling small tomatoes. It prefers full sunlight and well-drained acidic soil. Since it is a salt-tolerant plant, it is an ideal shrub in coastal conditions. Light infrequent pruning will help keep growth of the Rosa rugosa under control. Rosa Foliolosa
This is a member of the rosaceae family and is also know as leafy rose or prairie rose. The rosa foliolosa is a lovely little rose found mainly in Central and North Central Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. It is small in size with very thin wood, very elegant little foliage, with usually nine tiny leaflets per leaf. One of its great characteristics is its fern-like bright green foliage. Rosa Blanda
Another member of the rosaceae family, the rosa blanda, also known as meadow rose is a shrub-like thornless plant which grows to about three to four feet tall and prefers rich soil in full sun to light shade. It produces lovely pink flowers between June and August and the fruit resembles small apples. Modern Day Apostles Series Introduction and Article One
By Rascal Miles When most people hear the word Apostle, they think of the twelve Apostles who were selected by Jesus to accompany Him during His three-year earthly ministry here on this planet. Part of these Apostle's stories are recorded in what has become The New Testament of our Holy Bible. Yet another Apostle, Saul who later changed his name to Paul, which means "Little", wrote most of this New Testament Bible. Paul was also called by Christ to be an Apostle. Although Paul did not write The Acts of the Apostles, it includes much about his early ministry. Saul enters our drama when Stephen, a "Spirit filled" waiter, was stoned to death for his radical blasphemy against the acceptable Jewish belief system in Roman province city of Jerusalem. Acts 7:59 And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on [God] and saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." Acts 8:1 Saul was consenting to his death. At that time a great persecution arose against the church, which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. Saul was going to round up or catch followers of Jesus, the radical one who was considered responsible for leading many devout Jews astray. Acts 26: 9 "Indeed, I myself thought I must do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. 10 "This I also did in Jerusalem, and many of the saints I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against [them.] 11 "And I punished them often in every synagogue and compelled [them] to blaspheme; and being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted [them] even to foreign cities. 12 " While thus occupied, as I journeyed to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests, Called Saul of Tarsus, he was blinded by a light, knocked from his donkey on the road to Damascus. Acts 9:4 Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?" Acts9: 14 "And when we all had fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language, 'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? [It is] hard for you to kick against the goads.' 15 "So I said, 'Who are You, Lord?' And He said, 'I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. 16 'But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. 17 'I will deliver you from the [Jewish] people, as well as [from] the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, 18 'to open their eyes, [in order] to turn [them] from darkness to light, and [from] the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.' Saint Paul, (circa ad 3-62), the greatest missionary of Christianity and its first theologian, is often called Apostle to the Gentiles. Yet the other believers did not immediately embrace Paul. Acts 9:26. And when Saul had come to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples; but they were afraid of him, and did not believe that he was a disciple. With all due respect, I suggest that Paul was the first "Modern Day Apostle." After Judas hanged himself, prior to Saul's conversion and call, The Lord's Apostles selected a disciple Acts 1:26 And they cast their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven apostles. Paul was, by no means, the last Apostle to be called. He introduces himself as Romans 1:1 Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called [to be] an apostle, separated to the gospel of God So how does an Apostle fit into the body of Christ? 1 Cor 12:28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. In reference to Jesus, Ephesians 4:11 And He Himself gave some [to be] apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, Hebrews 3:1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, This series, "Modern Day Apostles," will focus on who and what Apostles are and what they are called to do. Published by author Rascal, the series should provide some new information to be considered. Additional ezine articles ~ which may be of interest to readers ~ are published as author Russ Miles. Universities
By Michael Bustamante Universities are institutions of higher education and research, and are found the world over. Universities grant academic degrees - associate, bachelor, master, and doctorate - at all levels of study, and certificates for specialized academic preparation in a variety of fields of study. Universities provide for learning skills applicable to functions of business, medicine, education, research, management, engineering, psychology, authorship, animation, and any other subject of interest or use for advancement of knowledge, experience, or career. Universities and colleges are systems for instruction, designed to allow students to study and learn skills for certification and degrees that provide for quality professions and careers. University students can enter into degree programs in any field of study to develop their understanding of those subjects. Degree programs also require the study of liberal arts subjects that provide for general understanding of the world. Curriculums in universities offer options for specialization in the many fields, and students can choose to study in postgraduate programs for advanced degrees and certificates. Universities are funded in various ways, privately by donors (such as Harvard University), publicly from taxes (such as state universities), by religious organizations, and by tuition and fees paid by attending students. Universities employ large numbers of people, and are generally academic or teaching institutions that are actively involved in conducting research. Working as faculty members in universities generally requires a doctorate degree in the academic field being taught. However, there are some teaching positions, such as fine arts, where the master degree, rather than doctorate degree, is the terminal degree in that discipline. "If I See Another Salad, I'm Going to Scream - I Don't Care What Dr. Leslie Says"
By Dr. Leslie Van Romer Isnt this title hilarious? Doesnt this sound exactly like something you might say or at least want to sayand right to my face? Well, thats exactly what Denise McClain said to my face just today. I thought you would get a hoot out of itjust like I did! I simply love Denises genuineness and honesty, and I think you will too. And how did Denise get to this dangerous point of hating me and salads forever? Yes, you guessed it. She came to one of my presentations, with more than a bit of healthy skepticism I might add. She decided to hold her nose and take the plunge head firstah-oh, so scarya full hour, knee to knee, with the food cop herself (thatd be me) for her Health Audit. What may spur you on may be a book or a friend or a videotape by someone who just makes sense to you. Denise knew what she had been doing wasnt working. She had nothing to lose so why not try something else. The food cop wasnt half as scary as the monster she had been wrestling with for far too longseriously ill health. You see, my friend, Denise has diabetes type 2, and the nationally accepted diabetic plan of eating didnt work for hershe was hungry most of the time from the restricted portions of food, she always wanted more fruit and vegetables, she carried too much weight, and she felt crummy besides. Not only that, she had just gotten over a two month bout with a lung sickness in which she was on intravenous AND oral antibiotics for much of that time, as well as steroids. This was merely the end of a long siege of serious lung problems that had been going on for over two years. Two years! Can you imagine what your life would be like if you were sick, I mean really sick, for two years? It wouldnt be much of a life now, would it? Denise knew she had to do something, but one thing that she knew for sure. She was not willing to feel deprived ever again. She had been there, done that, so many times in her life that she refused to go there again! So she thought shed give my eating plan a trytailored to HER goals and tastes, of course. And she liked the fact that this plan wasnt an all or nothing plan. There was flexibility in it. In other words, the idea was to just fill up on the good-for-you foods first most of the time and eat what you want when you go out to eat or have special occasions or just want to eat exactly what you want to eat just because. Denise was also reassured by something I said (youd have to ask her) that just because you eat bad-for-you foods doesnt make you a bad personeveryone eats badly sometimes. That is no big deal. The important thing isdo the best YOU can and want to do. Denise wanted to: 1. Lose 2.5 pounds a month for a grand total of 30 pounds in a year. 2. Stay off steroids and antibiotics and even reduce her diabetic medications if possible. 3. Have enough energy to fully participate in water aerobics. 4. Eat more fruits and vegetables. 5. Feel well. Her goals seemed reasonable and doable. Not only did they seem doable, they were doable! And she proved it. Listen to this. Denise lost 9 pounds in about one monththats 3.5x more weight loss than her goal. She was able to safely reduce her diabetes medication. She hasnt been back on prednisone or antibiotics (yes, its early yet but time will tell all). She is fully participating in water aerobics. She feels so much better and so much better about herself. Denise, just like you, deserves to feel good about herself. And the best part: As Denise said to me, I dont feel deprived. How could I feel deprived when I feel full from what Im eating? So what is Denise eating? In a quick nutshell, she eats way more salads, a variety of steamed vegetables, including yams (white potatoes dont work for her), occasionally vegetable sandwiches, and oatmeal and two pieces of fruit in the morningthat works great for her. When she got so sick of salads that she just wanted to scream, she could have just given up at that point and gone back to her old way of eating, the typical American diet. Instead, Denise chose to make a bean and brown rice soup to satisfy her craving for hot food and got more creative with vegetables. Her life depended on her making some significant changes in her eating habits. and she stuck to her commitment to her body and her health. She even bought a juicer and started making her own fresh juices, and this was all in a matter of four weeks! Amazing how many changes Denise went through in a very short period of time. No wonder she got sick of salads and me! Id get sick of me, too, if I did all that in 4 weeks or so. But Denise didnt quit, and she still is eating at least one large salad on most days and several pieces of whole fruit. She has drastically cut down the animal and dairy products and processed foods in her life. Denise is an inspiration to us all. If you met Denise, you would love her and would be truly moved by her and her victories! Denise is a living example of the determination, the courage and the will that we all have inside of us to be the best people we can be. Our lives depend on it. Cell Phone Wallpaper Which Ones To Choose For Your Phone
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Kohler]Michael Kohler One of the raging fads of our online generation is the ability to download things to either our computer or our cell phone. One of the more popular downloads for our cell phones are not only ring tones, but wallpapers for your ring tone. There are many places online that offer free downloads that are legitimate and safe to use. However be careful when downloading anything that claims to be free and never give out your credit card information unless you know that the company is reputable. Referring back to ring tones for a moment, you can also switch songs for ring tones to match your mood, or change movie themed wallpapers according to whats showing in the theaters. Today, great cellular accessories such as cell phone wallpapers make it easy to create a phone thats as unique as you are. Discount Eye Contacts
By Damian Sofsian Contact lenses are more expensive than regular glasses. The solutions to keep them clean and the eye drops can be highly priced. Even when the lenses are available on sale, they are generally quite expensive. Despite the high cost, many people prefer contacts to glasses. It is advisable to compare prices before buying contact lenses. Generally there is a whole package that is involved when buying contacts, which includes eye examination, contact lens, solution, and eye drops. The eye contact lenses can be got from the clinic or from the opticians. It is however advisable to carry out a price check on the net to arrive at an economical decision. It is also possible to go around a few shops selling contact lenses. By doing this it is possible to get good knowledge of the various types of models, packages available, and the discounts being offered. Comparison-shopping helps the customer in getting the best bargain. It is recommended to compare the price on the whole package, including the solution and the testing, instead of looking at the price of only one pair of contacts, to get a fair deal. Optical shops generally provide the best deals, as they are always trying to make money and increase their market share. It is wiser in the longer run to invest in a popular contact lens package than in cheaper ones. There might be a possibility of getting eye problems later on, with the cheaper brands, which are best avoided. It is to be noted that some online optical shops offer mail-in rebates. The contacts can be ordered online and are sent by a mail order, which can prove to be very convenient. Some websites are also found to specialize in taking mail orders that can be quite reliable as well. The world of vision correction using contact lenses has become, a major industry in the United States. There are lots of methods to procure a pair of contact lens. It is however recommended to weigh the pros and cons, before deciding on the discount contact lens available. Eye Contacts provides detailed information on Eye Contacts, Color Eye Contacts, Eye Contact Exams, Cheap Eye Contacts and more. Eye Contacts is affiliated with Contact Lens Discount Coupons. There's Never A Bad Time For A Great Sales Promotion
By Jim Logan I love spring! The warm days, sunshine, fresh flowersit's a welcome relief from colder, shorter, wetter winter months. Plus, it's a built-in great opportunity for a sales promotion! From March 21 - June 20, you can run a promotion targeted at both existing and new customers. There's never a bad time for a great sales promotion and spring is real-made for such an event. There are two broad elements of a good promotion to remain mindful of: time and reward. Time limit your promotions to create an urgency to act and include a reward to benefit those that act within the time you offer. For example, you can offer a spring promotion whereby a new customer gets a discount or a premium added to their order if placed between March 21 and June 20. I prefer to offer a reward as opposed to giving discounts. Rewards preserve the value of your product or service and don't set a precedent of a lower price for an established offering. Get creative with the rewards you offer as purchase incentives. What I do is take the value of the discount I'm comfortable giving and use that as a budget for the premium I offer. For example, if you are in the business of selling outdoor gear, you could run a spring promotion to sell kayaks. Let's say the average price of the kayaks you sell are $1000 and you're comfortable discounting the kayaks 20%. You could take $200 and apply it to premiums to reward purchases within your promotion period. You could include paddles and helmet, pay for kayaking lessons, include a river pass, partner with a travel agency to discount a kayaking vacation, include monthly subscriptions to outdoor magazines, pay for entry fees to a local event, etc. The possibilities are endless! This concept can be used for any product or service, it doesn't make any difference if you're selling kayaks for $1000 or telecom equipment and services for $1M. Promotions certainly aren't limited to seasons, any occasion can be made a promotion - anniversary, goofy holiday, birthday, business eventyou name it. System Administrator Appreciation Day can be a promotion event. Again, the possibilities are endless! Pull out your customer and prospect lists, package an offering with a premium to reward action, announce the promotion with a press release, direct mail, web-site, email campaigns, etc. Get enthused and celebrate! Let your imagination run wild! I love spring! Jim Logan is a direct response marketer that writes, speaks, and consults on the topic of businesses making more money. The Truth About Laser Hair Removal
By Morgan Hamilton Generally, there are three ways of hair removal. My favorite one is laser hair removal. The other two methods shaving and waxing might be cheaper and more popular but they both have some negative sides while the laser hair removal doesn't have any. To begin with, when shaving you leave behind stubble. If your hairs are thick that stubble might be like a dark shadow; if your hairs are thin, then the stubble might be only slightly noticeable. But whatever you do, if you shave your hairs, they grow back immediately. There is a myth about shaving saying that it cause hair to grow back thicker and faster. This is wrong. However, it is true that hair starts growing back as soon as you shave it. The other alternative to shaving is waxing. The latter removes hair for a longer period of time leaving behind little or no stubble. However, waxing takes much longer and it is more expensive, provided you get it done by a professional. Even when you buy one of those do-it-yourself kits it will cost you more than a razor and some shaving cream. Though, the greatest disadvantage of waxing over shaving is that the first is quite unpleasant and might sometimes be even painful. My personal favourite method of getting rid of unsightly hair- laser hair removal is much less painful and it has a long-standing effect. It removes your unwanted hairs for a few years - from five to ten, sometimes even longer. If there is a disadvantage about this method, it is that it's quite expensive, so it cannot be applied to large areas of the body unless you have a fortune. Apart from being a wonderful way of getting rid of unwanted hair, laser hair removal is a fun thing to do on a first date. I've always liked to do unusual and interesting things on a first date and one day I came up with the idea of getting unsightly hairs burned off by small lasers in the company of my date. I think this is a great way to get to know each other. I had such a first-date experience three years ago with Frank - a pretty (but quite hairy) girl, and later we got married. Of course, I am ready to admit that laser hair removal may not be quite the best thing to do on a first date but why not consider it before actually going on one. If you have a 'unibrow'(this was my case), get it removed and no one will ever suspect you had one. If you are a woman suffering from dark facial hair, consider laser hair removal - it might turn out to be the best solution if you give it a try. Job Stress - What Can You Do About It?
By Todd Linaman Todays workforce faces a multitude of pressures: deadlines, office politics, nonproductive meetings, conflict, job ambiguity, miscommunication, increased workload, inadequate resources, customer complaints and long hours. . . to name just a few. On-the-job stress can be quite costly, too, because it often results in increased absenteeism, reduced efficiency, low morale, reduced effectiveness, and high staff turnover. Researchers have discovered that since 1965 the overall stress levels in the U.S. have increased nearly 50%, and it is estimated that 75-90% of all office visits to health care professionals are for stress-related symptoms and disorders. We know that a certain level of stress can be good. Stress actually improves performance by sharpening concentration, focusing attention and increasing motivation; however, when the threshold of optimum stress is crossed it can trigger a very negative domino effect. High levels of stress not only compromise your work performance, productivity and efficiency, but more importantly, it can seriously impact your health. Common physical symptoms of stress include headaches, migraines, insomnia, back and neck aches, nausea, twitching, appetite changes and sweating. The long-term effects of stress can include heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis, gastrointestinal problems and even cancer. In addition to the physical symptoms, stress can also cause serious psychological and emotional problems such as mood swings, poor concentration, anxiety, irritability, anger, depression, forgetfulness, pessimism, confusion and self-doubt. No doubt we all agree that it is important to effectively manage our stress, but how can we do it? Here are a few tips that will help you to keep your stress low and your performance level high. Control your time. When you are over-committed, something has to give. Take time to identify your most important responsibilities or tasks and focus on them first. Avoid taking on assignments just to please others or to look good. Successful time management involves your ability to control the activities in your life and the better you are at it, the less stress you will experience. Minimize procrastination. Putting off important responsibilities breeds stress. Procrastination typically occurs for three reasons: You arent sure how to do the task, you cant decide how to approach it, and/or you dont particularly enjoy doing what you have to do. Avoid waiting until the last minute to complete jobs by breaking down a large project into as many small, manageable, instant tasks as possible. Write these mini-projects on a piece of paper and then include several of them on your daily To Do List. When you complete one of the tasks, treat yourself to a nice reward. Before you know it, the project will be done and you will feel energized as a result. Take time out for yourself. The busyness of work life and constant interaction with others can create a very legitimate need for alone time. Making time in your schedule for solitude can be a big challenge, but make it a priority to set aside "down" or "quiet" time just like you schedule business meetings and lunch appointments. During this time, give yourself permission to take a mini vacation. Find a quite place to relax where you wont be interrupted and then mentally transfer yourself to a quiet and beautiful setting. Imagine taking a leisurely walk on the beach or dangling your feet in the cool waters of a lazy mountain stream. As you sense the warm sun on your face and the cool breeze in the air, you will feel the stress and worries of the day slowly drift away. Practice healthy self-talk. You feel what you think. Negative, critical and hopeless thinking produces fear, anger, worry and stress. Practice maintaining a positive mental attitude about yourself, your work and those around you. Remember, you do have choices in life and you can change and control many of the things that you are dissatisfied with if you are willing to set your mind to it. Reconsider all meetings. Unproductive meetings are among the worse time wasters in businesses today. Meetings should only be held when interaction is required, and only those directly involved or affected should be required to attend. Productive meetings serve an essential purpose to share important information and/or to solve critical problems. But unnecessary meetings just delay the completion of important objectives, which ultimately results in more pressure and stress. A study quoted in The Wall Street Journal reported that if American managers started and ended their meetings on time and followed an agenda they could save 80% of the time they currently waste in meetings! Control your diet. If you put low octane fuel in your car your engine will still run, but not at top performance level. The same principle is true for your mind and body. If you regularly consume refined sugar, large amounts of caffeine, and foods high in fat or if you skip meals you can still function, but with much less efficiency. A healthy diet is key to maintaining good concentration, a high level of energy and a healthy outlook on life. Get your heart pumping. Physical activity is one of the best stress busters around. A brisk walk, game of tennis, or aerobics class helps you let off steam and distracts you from your source of stress. Exercise can also boost your immune system and help you to fight off illnesses that stress can cause. Stop mulling it over take action. If you're overloaded with worries, sit down with a pen and paper and spend 15 minutes writing down your concerns and potential solutions to the problems. By the time you finish, you will realize that you dont feel as worried because you are now better prepared to take action. Recommended Daily Habits Set realistic goals and expectations for yourself

Provide a workplace free from all forms of harassment
Make sure adequate resources are provided to complete assignments
Discourage excessive work hours over an extended period of time
Develop management practices based on equality of treatment
Provide reasonable workload allocation and feedback on performance
Encourage staff to maintain and improve their physical and psychological health
Strive to ensure good communication throughout the organization
Provide information and training to enable staff to develop their skills and maximize their contribution to the business Managing stress in the workplace or anywhere else in life, for that matter is really a question of balance. If your work is very busy, hectic or noisy, balance it with quiet times and relaxing activities. If your job is mentally demanding or requires long periods of concentration, balance it with play and physical activity. Eat enough but not too much. Enjoy time with family and friends, offset with periods of solitude and reflection. The key is recognizing the value of activities that arent related to your work and giving them adequate priority in your daily calendar. And theres one more thing to consider: If keeping your life in balance just isnt enough to relieve your stress, you may be wise to consider meeting with a coach or counselor to help you discover if your work stress is an indication that you should pursue another job or even another career altogether. Florida DUI Penalties
By Max Bellamy In the state of Florida, road accidents are on the rise due to driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI). Authorities have done their best to try and curb the problem, and it seems that with the introduction and enforcing of heavy, stiff penalties there is hope that DUI might be on the downswing. Under regular circumstances, any person caught driving a vehicle with a 0.08% alcohol present in his blood sample, urine or breath, is eligible to be booked under DUI. In certain situations, there are drivers who might refuse to take a DUI test. These drivers may also be arrested with DUI charges and are punishable by Florida state law. An immediate penalty is usually $250 for a first time conviction. These fines can go up to $500. In more severe circumstances, if the person's blood sample indicates an alcohol level of 0.20 or above, fines can be extremely hefty, starting at $500 going up to $1000 or more. Laws are more stringent and penalties more severe when the accused has been caught several times for DUI. In all DUI cases, community services are absolutely essential and involve alcohol-counseling classes. However, there have been thousands of offenders who have gone back to their old habits of getting drunk while driving, in spite of serving a community service sentence. This may sometimes lead to the question the feasibility of such community programs and services. Community services vary from person to person. In all cases, if the person fails to serve the term, a fine of $10 for every hour missed must be paid. Jail terms are also part of DUI penalties and usually start with a six-month term. There are some DUI cases that may be categorized as vehicular homicide. This involves passengers in the vehicle of the accused, other passengers in other vehicles or pedestrians who have been injured due to the drunk driver. In these cases, jail terms can top 30 years depending on the charges. Besides fines and jail sentences, the vehicle is promptly seized and may be kept in police custody for a long time. The drivers license may be confiscated for varied amounts of time. This may prove to be quite shattering to many who depend on their vehicles to get them back and forth to work, etc. There are some unethical and bold instances in which a driver, booked under DUI has actually driven a vehicle in spite of having his license confiscated. If caught doing this, the ramifications are severe. DUI penalties are in general, very hefty, and in some cases, may even seem quite unjust. However, they are perhaps the only way of keeping reckless and drunk drivers in check. Florida DUI provides detailed information about Florida DUI, Florida DUI arrests, Florida DUI attorneys, Florida DUI laws and more. Florida DUI is the sister site of California DUI Lawyers Info. Relationship Deal-Making - Shifting Love Into a Long-Term Commitment, Part 1 of 2
By Janice D. Bennett, Ph.D. Loving someone doesn't always translate into a relationship. This is the hard cold truth singles often have to accept if they ultimately want a healthy life-partner relationship. That's because love can't survive alone and pure in a world complicated by so many other elements. We all have jobs or careers, family relationships, spiritual practices and historical emotional experiences that not only define who we are, but also affect how we want to live our lives. Shifting the love you experience with someone into a healthy, committed relationship is often more challenging than we would want it to be. After all, once you find someone to love, shouldn't the rest just fall into place? The answer, unfortunately, is "no." A life partnership is, in essence, a "deal" created between two people requiring negotiation and agreement on a number of important life issues. Therefore, being able to live with the one you love indeed becomes a "big deal." I have seen singles struggle in their relationships when confronted with life factors that challenge their love for one another. "Cutting a deal" is the phrase I use to describe the process of reconciling what you're getting and not getting in a relationship. Compromises, or "trade-offs" are frequently necessary when cutting a deal. But if there are too many trade-offs, they can become "deal-breakers" -- reasons for ending the negotiations and, ultimately, the relationship. Here in Part 1, I present examples of two couples who experienced how "love is a big deal." Then in Part 2, I'll show how these couples implemented the best problem-solving and decision-making techniques to understand the trade-offs they faced, and cut the best possible relationship deal. Karen and Gary met online, and began an exclusive relationship after a few weeks. They enjoyed being together and recognized and appreciated each other's intelligence and sensitivity. They tried to be together as much as possible, but this turned out to be limited due to Gary's unstable business situation, as well as his need to spend time with his teenage son. As much as they loved each other, Karen felt that spending time together always competed with Gary's business or son. They hardly went out to restaurants or movies or the theatre because Gary didn't have either the time or the money, which displeased Karen. After dating for 8 months, she felt frustrated that their relationship was not progressing towards a commitment, so she asked Gary how he saw their future together. Gary loved Karen, but could not promise anything would change; he had to keep working to build his business and support his son. Karen was understanding and supportive, but after another 3 months, not much had changed. She continued to feel unhappy about not being a priority in Gary's life and his inability to work on building a future together. Karen recognized that she had to decide if she could accept the trade-off of feeling neglected in exchange for the love and attention Gary was able to, and did, occasionally give her. The deal she had to cut to be in the relationship also required that she trade off working towards, and securing, a future together, in exchange for loving each other in the present. Henry and Hannah met at a synagogue event. They shared the same devotion to their religious practices, which provided them with many holidays, classes and rituals to spend together. Since most of Henry's family was out of state, he would spend
many holidays with Hannah and some part of her extended family. After 6 months of dating exclusively (with the goal of marriage clearly understood), Henry took Hannah on a trip to meet his family. Upon their return, Henry began to feel especially worried about marrying Hannah, given what he saw as her over-dependence on her mother and sisters. He told her his concerns about her family's constant involvement in her life. Hannah dismissed his concerns, and said that he would be welcomed into her family and could benefit from the same love and advice she's received from them her whole life. Henry felt uneasy about this closeness and potential lack of independence. Henry recognized that he had to accept Hannah's close relationships with her mother and sisters as a trade-off for being together. The deal he had to cut to be with Hannah meant he'd have to trade off some independence. While he and Hannah had made some decisions about their relationship on their own, he worried that Hannah might always be inclined to ask for her mother's and sisters' advice, at the expense of
their privacy and autonomy. These examples are meant to demonstrate the importance of paying attention now to what could be the source of the demise of your relationship later. Even though it seems contrary to being in love, doing so protects us from experiencing even worse suffering in the future. Knowing all of this, how does one go about determining if factors other than love become deal-breakers? Since cutting a deal to be together in the future requires decisions about trade-offs in the present, good decision-making and problem-solving are essential. Using these skills now will also help couples to communicate, negotiate and compromise throughout the course of their life partnership. So while you might accuse me of leaving you hanging, stay tuned for Part 2, where I'll describe how Karen and Henry used specific problem-solving and decision-making techniques to identify the deal-breakers in their relationships, and attempt to cut the best possible deals with the ones they love. The Truth About Fat
By Kim Beardsmore Fat has had a lot of bad press and for many people, just a mention of the word can evoke misery. You can try to lose it, try to hide it, try to avoid it, but your body still needs it! Did you know that fat helps to insulate our nerve cells, keeps us warm, balances our hormones, keeps skin and arteries supple, lubricates joints and is a component in every cell? The key issue here is recognizing which type of fat your body needs, how much your body requires and which type is your enemy. Armed with the right information, you can focus on getting more of the good fats and less of the bad fats into your daily diet. There are two types of fat to be aware of. Saturated fats - let's call them "the enemy" and unsaturated fats - "the good guys"! It is easy to tell the difference because saturated fats are hard at room temperature. Saturated fats are not essential to your health. They come from animals and are found in meat, eggs and cheese. They are harder to digest and full of cholesterol. Unsaturated fats are liquid at room temperature and have been divided into two groups. Monounsaturated fats such as olive oil, and polyunsaturated fats such as sunflower oil.
Polyunsaturated fats are split into Omega 3 fatty acids and Omega 6 fatty acids. Monounsaturated fat (Omega 9) although not essential, is not harmful in moderation - a good quality (extra virgin first cold pressed) olive oil is a healthier alternative to the usual vegetable oil.
Good sources of Omega 6: safflower oil, sunflower oil, evening primrose oil, walnut oil, pumpkin oil, sesame oil.
Good sources of Omega 3 are mackerel, herring, salmon, pilchards, sardines, tuna and flax seed oil.
Here are some important facts about fat in our diet. 1. Fat is the 'energy reserve' of animals, plants and humans. 2. The ideal body-fat ratio should be approximately 19-26% of a woman's body weight, and 12-18% of a man's body weight. 3. There are two different types of body fat - brown and yellow. Brown fat is situated inside the body and is 'active', containing mitochondria that produce heat (thermogenesis) and as a result burn energy. Yellow fat is found nearer the surface, is less active and more likely to accumulate. Women tend to have a higher ratio of yellow fat than men. 4. Women need higher levels of fat because it is essential for reproduction and so the body stores it 'just in case'. 5. An average healthy intake of good fats in the diet should be approximately 30-40 grams a day. The fat content of diets in affluent populations can be nearly four times this amount! 6. Most foods containing fat combine saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat in varying quantities. For instance, butter's fat content is almost 100%, of which 60% is saturated, 30% monounsaturated and 10% polyunsaturated, compared with sunflower seeds' fat content of 73%, of which just 12% is saturated and 21% monounsaturated and 67% is polyunsaturated. 7. Heat, light and oxygen destroy essential fatty acids, which is why it is best to keep oils in dark containers. 8. Essential fats must come from the diet because your body cannot produce them. The essential healthy fats are Omega 3 and Omega 6 (known as essential fatty acids). 9. Weight for weight, fat provides more than twice the amount of usable energy than carbohydrates or protein (you'll find 9 calories in every gram of fat). 10. Fat contributes to the palatability, texture and the smell of many foods, it also slows down the process of digestion providing an extended period of satiation after a meal. When you know the good from the bad, fat is fabulous! (c) Copyright Kim Beardsmore Kim Beardsmore is a weight loss consultant whose business operates across 60 countries. Fishing Tackle: How To Tackle Any Questions You Have
By Niall Cinneide Fishing is a sport that requires you to be prepared. Sure, you can grab any sort of stick, attach a rope to it and TRY to catch something. But, in todays wide world of products, you can do so much better and become that much more successful at fishing. There are several things that youll need and thats what we will talk about here. First, what is fishing tackle? This is the equipment youll need to get your bait out there. You dont need to spend a fortune on it, but what you should do is get the right products for your needs instead. The Rod And The Reel The most fundamental product that you need is the rod and reel. For a beginner, go with a lightweight choice that has a spinner reel on it. You can even purchase them together. As for length, go for about six feet for the adults and four to five for your child. Next on the list is fishing line. It is also called filament. Youll need to know which weight to get. This is called the pound test. The larger the pound test number is, the stronger the line is. Depending on the type of fish you are after, youll need to choose the line that is about the weight of the fish. For a small, light rod, go with up to six pound test. If you are using a large sized spinning reel, go with a stronger line. For bait casting reels, go with six to thirty pound test. The most popular options are the eight to sixteen. Dont always think that heavier is better though as many of the fish will be able to see the line and wont go near it. Also in your equipment, youll need a fishing net. This will help you to catch your bait and can help you bring the fish in. Options In Bait There are many options in bait that youll need in that tackle box. First, well talk about which live choices you have. Go with earthworms to start. You can dig your own or get them from the bait shop. You can go with mealworms or grubs as well. Depending on the type of fish you are after, you are likely to have a type of bait to use to catch them. Ask your local anglers for information about which seem to work the best for your area. There are several other products that you will find that youll need in the way of tackle. Here are some of them and what they are good for. Bobbers. These are floats that youll attach to your line to dangle your bait in front of the fish. They give you some extra weight when casting. They will sit at the top of the water. Small is a better way to go and make sure it is just enough weight to keep the bait from dragging. Hooks. Youll need to choose the right size for the job at hand. When using live bait, buy sizes from six to ten. For bullhead or catfish, youll need larger hooks. For catch and release fishing, look for fish hook barbs that can be flattened. To choose look for the size that is about the right size for the mouth of the fish you are trying to catch. Too large and you wont get a bite and too small will leave you with the hook in its belly. Sinkers are next. These are weights that come in a wide assortment. They are used to keep your line from floating under the water. Split shot sinkers are tiny and they are by far the most popular. But, some weights can get up to a pound in weight. Make sure that they are lead free though when you purchase them. Leaders. These are small metal pieces with an eye on one end and a pin catch on the other. The pin is used to slip a hook or lure onto it. Youll then thread the line through the eye and knot it. They are helpful when it comes to changing hooks and lures. You may want to consider them when you are after muskellunge, walleye, or northern pike as theyll keep the fish from biting through your line. Swivels are used instead to attach hooks and lures without a leader. There is an eye on one end and a pin clip on the other. The same process is done as with a leader except that the pin clip opens much like a safety pin. They protect your line from tangling as your bait moves in the water. In your tackle box, fill it with several very important things. For example, youll need a good quality fishing knife. This will help you do many things from cutting tangled line to cleaning your catch. Also, make sure to have a pair of needle nose pliers in there to help you remove hooks safely. It is wise to have a first aid kit on hand as well and make sure it includes antibacterial lotion. In fact, the tackle box itself should be organized with all of your gear and kept clean. Some will even come with the artificial bait you may need. The best place to find all that you need in fishing tackle is through the web. Youll find some of the best products here. Not sure what to purchase? Ask a local professional to help you to know what works well in your area. This can lead to some excellent fishing experiences.
