Myths & Misconceptions of the Professional Wedding Planner

By Jean Neuhart Medusa, the Loch Ness Monster, Big Foot, Jennifer Lopez as The Wedding Planner . . . What do these things have in common? Theyre all MYTHS! While being a myth doesnt keep people from seeking some of these out (well, maybe not Medusa . . . ) they often prevent couples from seeking out the assistance of a professional wedding planner. To help clarify and debunk some of these, here is a list of some of the more common misconceptions (and truths) of professional wedding planners (PWPs), aka wedding consultants, wedding coordinators, and bridal consultants. Consultants are expensive and only for the rich and famous.
Like most people, much of what you know about a PWP is what you see on TV, the movies, and in magazines. Lavish celebrity weddings raise ratings and sell more copies but they are not the stuff of everyday real-life weddings. And the people who produce these weddings (Colin Cowie, Preston Bailey . . .) provide a very different service than your local PWP. The local PWP understands whats in their region -- current trends, and all the great local vendors and resources. Also, most PWPs offer different levels of service, from basic hour-long sessions to full-service coordination and design, so you should be able to find something in your price range quite easily. My caterer also does wedding planning. Why not just use them to plan mine?
A caterers (or florists, or djs, etc.) main job is to provide the service they are specifically trained and experienced in. While they are busy providing their service on a wedding day, how are they going to take care of any the other behind-the-scenes things? They just cant be in two places at once. Ive just booked my reception venue and they have a list of preferred vendors. Why should I pay someone for the same information?
Because a PWP doesnt give the same information. The preferred vendor list provided by venues, caterers, etc. are often vendors who have paid to be on that list, and is not an indication of their style, pricing, availability, nor reputation. This very same list is given to all of the venues clients. On the other hand, the list of vendors provided by a PWP is tailored specifically for each bride & groom. You have your own specific style and desires, as well as budget, that you want for your wedding day. Wouldnt you rather have a list of available vendors that you know specialize in your desired style, and fit your budget? But I dont want someone to plan my wedding they way they think it should be.
A PWP will take the time to find out exactly what you and your fianc want out of your wedding, how you envision your wedding day, how much you have and want to spend, and what your priorities are for your wedding. She will also take the time to get to know YOU. By doing so, then she can make referrals and suggestions based on your unique desires and dreams for your wedding day, and NOT some preconceived notion of what a wedding should be. She will help you plan your wedding the way YOU want it to be, not the way she thinks it should be, or (worse yet!) the way its always been done? Dont consultants take kickbacks from the vendors they refer?
Absolutely not! It is unethical to accept kickbacks, finders fees, or whatever you want to call them. A PWPs main focus is on you, the bride and groom. She is looking out for your best interest, not her own, nor any other vendors. The ONLY exception is if the PWPs fees will be paid by the vendors and not by the client. Wont a consultant want to run the whole show?
A PWP will work with you, handling as much or as little of your wedding as you want. After all, it is your wedding. The PWP is there to help you and your family make the day perfect. If you want her to, the PWP will run the whole show, but it is your show that she is running. Our church has a wedding coordinator. Why do I need someone else?
The person at the church is usually only familiar with his/her aspect of the wedding -- getting the bride down the aisle on time -- not the complete planning process, and is primarily concerned with making sure the rules of their church are followed. Dont assume the church coordinator will help with any set-up, assist you and your bridal party while youre getting dressed, pass out and pin on boutonnieres and corsages, make sure everything and everyone is in place, or be able to fix any behind-the-scenes problems that may arise. I can find vendors straight out of the yellow pages. Why pay someone to do this for me?
You can pick names from the yellow pages yourself. However, this is no indication of their style, price ranges, availability, or if the vendor is even reputable. Referrals provided by a PWP are not pulled out of the yellow pages, but from a data base of pre-qualified, reputable vendors who match a specific set of criteria that fits your wedding vision and budget. My friend (or sister) just got married, and her wedding was great. Why cant I use the same vendors?
Of course you can use the same vendors, but do you really want to have your wedding just like someone else's? My mom is helping me. Why hire someone when we can do it all?
Using the services of a PWP does not prevent you and/or your mom from doing it all. Instead, with her training, experience and expertise, the PWP is on hand to assist and guide you through the entire wedding process, offering suitable suggestions and quickly remedying any problems, so no one ends up too stressed and too tired to enjoy the big day when it finally arrives. Wouldnt you rather look forward to and enjoy your wedding day than get so stressed out that you cant wait for it to be over with? Jean Neuhart is the owner of Weddings From The Heart . Drawstring Plastic Bags

By Marcus Peterson Drawstring plastic bags are basically simple plastic bags with drawstrings or double pull strings at the top, that makes the bags easy to use, easy to carry and at the same time, reusable. These serve a double purpose. While these are considered to be excellent for showing off particular products, drawstring bags are also useful in keeping the items free from dust, grime, pollution and other harmful agents. These are used quite commonly to showcase cosmetics, craft items and many types of decorative items. Drawstring plastic bags are also waterproof. Decorative items are stored quite often in transparent drawstring plastic bags as it enables the customer to view the items carefully without opening the package repeatedly. This is especially important if the contents are delicate. Drawstring plastic bags are generally available in packs of hundred. The size varies from 3X5 inches to 12X18 inches. As the size of the drawstring bags increases, the price also increases. One can buy the small sized drawstring bags for about $7 and the bigger ones for about $24. There are various brands for drawstring bags, but this is the general price range, seen across all brands and companies. They are available in many colors but the most common and popular are the clear plastic drawstring bags, as by storing items in these, the items inside the bag can be easily seen. However, if the items are to be kept in the drawstring bags for storage purposes and not for showcasing, then colored drawstring bags are favored. Nowadays, drawstring plastic bags have lost their popularity as they can't hold heavy items and tear easily. The plastic also degrades with exposure to heat and sunlight. So, now people usually prefer drawstring bags made of materials other than plastic. Plastic Bags provides detailed information on Clear Plastic Bags, Custom Plastic Bags, Plastic Bag Manufacturers, Plastic Bags and more. Plastic Bags is affiliated with Plastic Containers. Top New Wedding Trend

By Barbara Ryan A top new trend in wedding accessories will entertain your guests as they arrive at your reception to find a unique wedding guest book signing station. The first step is to have a photo collage of yourselves, the bride and groom created and framed. The collage should represent the both of you from childhood to your engagement. The most suitable layout would be photographs of the two of you growing up. Photographs of both of you together in the middle and then photos of each of you throughout your childhood on either side. Frame the collage and have it set up on an easel in the entrance of the reception or a corner of the reception hall. This will give your guests something to view and keep them occupied while they wait to sign the guest book. It is also a way for guests to get to know each other as they reminisce over the pictures and how they all know the bride and groom. Next, purchase a large frame and mat to fit inside the frame. Perhaps a 16x20 frame for an 11x14 picture to fit inside. The mat will serve as your guest book. Guests will sign the mat directly and then the signed mat will frame a favorite wedding photograph, or the collage of yourselves that was made. Or, you could have a wedding photo collage created. Guests are entertained viewing your couple collage while signing your unique mat guest book and you are left with a unique keepsake to frame a special wedding memory and to cherish forever. Dating Advice: How to Captivate a Man

By Terry Hernon MacDonald You've gone on one or two dates with a guy, and you're crazy about him. Now how do you keep him interested? How do you keep him coming back for more? It's easier than it sounds. You don't have to be able to speak a foreign language, live in a loft in a trendy neighborhood, drive a hybrid, or be able to bolt tequila shots without flinching. You don't even have to be particularly great looking. Or funny. You don't have to be anything but yourself. Sure, you may be thinking, but I'm not all that interesting. In fact, I'm actually kind of boring. At the end of the day, who isn't? The key to captivating a man is to cultivate and maintain interests of your own. This means: 1) You never cancel a night out with a friend to go out with him--ever. (Why don't you just tell the guy you're desperate and afraid to let him out of your sight?) 2) You continue to pursue your hobbies, your career, and your relationships with friends and family at the rate you did before you started dating. In other words, you keep a full life. If the guy tells you he can't see you this weekend, don't ask him why. Let him volunteer the information. If and when he does, tell him to have a good time and mean it. Chances are, he'll be intrigued enough to ask you what your plans are for the weekend. Keep your answer vague (especially if you don't already have plans). Tell him that you may go out with friends, and then go home and call one or two to line something up. It's also quite attractive to a man when you are not available to pick up every time he calls. If the phone rings while you're in the shower, let him leave a message and wonder where you are. I do not advise you to lie or to play games, and I do not advocate manipulation, but ask yourself: Do you like men who follow you around, hang on your every word, and call you more often than necessary? Are you turned on by a guy who shows up after you've told him you need a night out with your friends? A guy who's afraid to let you out of his sight? Of course not. All of us--men and women--want a "prize" when it comes to dating and relationships. We want someone who will treat us well, but who isn't overly available. Overly available people are not interesting. People who have places to go and people to see are exciting--and a bit mysterious. Keep a full life, and you will be interesting. You will be captivating. That man you're so crazy about will definitely come back for more! Terry MacDonald is the happily married author of "How to Attract and Marry the Man of Your Dreams." News Flash: 4,000-Year-Old Dietary Guidelines Are the Best Yet (Part 1)

By Lisa J. Lehr Many people these days are health and diet consciousand well they should be, as it is an undisputed fact that health and diet are major determining factors in both length and quality of life. As far as the particulars are concerned, there is a much lesser degree of agreement. Advice and opinions abound, much of it conflicting. And those looking for the latest fad diet based on shaky medical concepts will never be disappointed! Yet the Bible sets forth some deceptively simple rules, and Bible readers and non-Bible readers alike can benefit from this timeless advice. Just think: these dietary guidelines are thousands of years old, and the societies that have followed them are among the healthiest and longest-lived on the planet. The Essence of the Healthful Old Testament Diet Correct diet formed the basis of Mosaic Law, and no other ancient writing is so strict regarding what to eat and what not to eat. Modern knowledge of healthful eating is strikingly corroborative of this ancient wisdom. The Israelites thrived on an almost exclusively vegetarian diet. The use of meat may not have been forbidden per se, yet it was not considered necessary for health, and was generally reserved for special occasions. Protein sources were mainly grains, including wheat, barley, and millet; and legumes, such as beans, peas, and lentils. The latter group, which comprise the seeds of pod-bearing plants, are referred to as pulse. Bread, the main part of everyones diet, is mentioned frequently in both Testaments. This was whole-grain, unrefined bread; whole grain contains the germ, a rich source of complex carbohydrates, vitamins, and other nutrients. Bread could be made from other grains besides wheat; grains could also be roasted rather than made into bread. Barley provided fiber and high-density lipoproteins, which help control cholesterol. The Israelites so depended on their hand mills for making bread that the law stated a hand mill could not be taken as a pledge against a debt. Nuts, especially almonds and pistachios, were additional sources of protein. Foods were flavored with onions and garlic (not coincidentally, now both found on most 10 best foods lists), as well as mint, dill, and mustard, and other herbs and spices. The manna referred to in Numbers was probably coriander seed (see Numbers 11:6-8). Food was cooked in olive oil, which was also used as a condiment. Olive oil, unlike animal fats and tropical oils, guards against arteriosclerosis. Sugar as we know it did not exist; honey, a natural sugar, pre-digested by bees, was used for sweetening. Fruits release digestive enzymes to help metabolize food. Apricots, figs, dates, pomegranates, and grapes were among those available to Old Testament people. What about dairy products? The Bible makes few references to any dairy product as part of a meal. Occasionally butter and cheese are mentioned, and these were usually made from the milk of sheep and goats. Besides water, wine is the drink most often found accompanying food in the Bible. It was less likely than water or milk to be contaminated because the alcohol content killed germs. Often the wine probably was not fermented, but actually more like grape juice, and enjoyed by people of all ages. If and when people did eat meat God specified that only mammals that chew their cud and have cloven hoovessuch as cattle, sheep, and goatsare fit for human consumption. Wild game that could be hunted would have included deer and wild sheep and goats. One possible interpretation of Deuteronomy chapter 14 suggests that milk and meat were not to be eaten together. Modern understanding of the digestive system concurs. Dairy products require mild enzymes for metabolism; meat, by contrast, requires much stronger digestive acids. If the two food groups are eaten together, the weak acids dilute the strong ones, and the meat is not digested properly. The result is heartburn and digestive upset. Gods laws further specify that seafood must have fins and scales. Scales protect the fish from disease, and fins enable the fish to control its direction. Shellfish merely drift with the current; they cannot avoid polluted waters and are therefore vulnerable to infection. As far as edible fowl are concerned, those considered acceptable are chickens, turkeys, geese, and ducksthose that eat grain and not dead flesh or other garbage. The Israelites were forbidden even to touch the carcass of an animal already deadeven of a clean animal. And if a rodent or some small creature was to fall into a vessel of food, the food would be discarded and the vessel, depending upon the material, was either destroyed or scoured clean. In addition, creeping things such as lizards and snails were not to be eaten or even touched. This is fascinating in light of modern cases of babies and young children who have become infected with salmonella, in which the infection has been traced to parents who did not wash their hands after handling the familys pet reptile. Cleanliness is next to Godliness may not be Scriptural, but whoever first said it probably knew his Bible. Some meat for sale had been slaughtered in pagan religious ceremonies, and therefore was spiritually as well as physically unhealthful. He even told us how to prepare it Within Gods guidelines for the eating of appropriate animal flesh, He directed the manner of slaughter. The method was designed to be painless for the animal, and in turn was more healthful for the humans who subsequently ate it, because humane slaughtering precludes the accumulation of toxins in the carcass of an animal that suffers a slow and stressful death. (Besides, it was more kindly toward Gods creatures.) The modern-day meat industry is anything but painlessfor the humans who work there, as well as the animals that die there. More accidental amputations occur in the meatpacking industry than in any other, and injuries from falls are common becausewell, imagine what the floors of these places must look like. Human civilization has digressed a long, long way from Gods instructions. Daniel and the three other captive Israelites requested vegetables and water in place of the rich meats and wine offered by the Babylonian king (Daniel chapter 1). The king was concerned that they would become malnourished, but at the end of a ten-day trial period, they were healthier than the others who had taken the traditional rations. In the story of Daniel, he (along with his companionsand they were probably mere teenagers at the time) took a stand for God and was rewarded for his faithfulness. Why did God make these rules? God wanted His people to be separate from other people; He wanted them to survive and thrive in order to serve Him better. Pagan peoples during Old Testament times routinely ate virtually any type of animal, with the result of frequent plagues and epidemics. In the ancient civilizations that consumed animal fats to excess, there was a higher incidence of illness and lower life expectancy. Thousands of people died needlessly, and God handed down, through Moses, a set of dietary guidelines. What difference do cud chewing and cloven hooves make? Cloven hooves are less susceptible to disease, because of better air circulation. It is an observable fact that feet are a critical point of entry for infection. This is not surprising considering the amount of stress to which feet are subject. Consider the importance of foot care for humans. We are all taught as children how to cut our toenails in order to avoid ingrown toenails, and I have heard more than one story about someone whose heel blister or stubbed toe was not properly treated and led to the risk of foot or leg amputation. Additionally, cud-chewing animals have better digestion, resulting in overall better health. Pork, expressly forbidden to Gods people, is a notorious disease-bearer in hot regions. Note that animals with closed hooves include horses. Animals with paws were forbidden for the same reasons, and for the additional reason that most animals with paws (especially lions) are hunters (carnivores), and the possibility existed that such an animal had previously eaten a human. The people may not have known the reasons behind the rulesbut God did. Please continue to Part 2 About The Author

Modern Naturopathy History: A Chiropractic Legacy

By Dr Sylvain Desforges Dr. Benedict Lust (M.D., D.C., N.D.) a German doctor and chiropractor who emigrated to the U.S. in 1892, was Americas first naturopathic physician. Although ridiculed by the establishment for his revolutionary ideas of exercise, vegetarianism and healthy living, Benedict Lust, founded the first health food store as we know it, and crystallized the focus of naturopathy on diet and nutrition as the chief route to health. He also started the countrys health spa, in Butler NJ, and founded the first naturopathic college, the American School of Naturopathy and chiropractic in 1902, in New York. Where there is no official recognition and regulation, you will find plotters, the thieves, the charlatans operating on the same basis as the conscientious practitioners Frankly such conditions cannot be remedied until suitable safeguards are erected by law, or by the profession itself, around the practice of Naturopathy. - Benedict Lust, circa 1902, the founding father of naturopathy. Naturopathic medicine grew through the 1910s and 1920s, but by the 1930s and 1940s, pressure from the pharmaceutical companies, political leaders, the rise of antibiotics, and numerous other factors caused a severe decline: In 1910, when the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching published the Flexner Report which criticized many aspects of medical education in various institutions (natural and conventional), it was mostly seen as an attack on low-quality natural medicine education. It caused many such programs to shut down and contributed to the popularity of conventional medicine. Schools were closed, sanatoriums shut down, and doctors had their privileges revoked. However, because chiropractic colleges excided the standards of education forced upon the medical institution by the "Flexner" reform, most of them stayed open and flourished. But Naturopathic medicine, with its herbs, Nature Cure, and holistic view of the body was considered unscientific and based on unproven folk tradition. It therefore was almost lost. However naturopathic medicine did not go away. It was kept alive by chiropractors in Portland, Oregon where graduates of the Western States Chiropractic College could enrol in a 2-year postgraduate course of study and receive a degree in naturopathy. This lasted until 1956 when the program was dropped. To keep the practice of naturopathy going, several naturopaths and chiropractors founded the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in 1956 in Portland, Oregon. It moved briefly to Seattle and then returned to Portland where it is today. Very slowly Naturopathic medicine began to rise. CHRONOLOGICAL EVENTS LEADING TO THE BIRTH OF MODERN NATUROPATHY Chiropractic education was introduced in Portland as early as 1904 when Drs. John and Eva Marsh opened Marshes' School and Cure. In 1909, the college changed its name to Pacific College of Chiropractic. The institution absorbed the Lindlahr College of Naturopathy in 1926 and introduced one of the first four-year courses in the profession in 1928. Pacific College of Chiropractic entered a new phase in January 1929, when the college was purchased for $20,000 by the former dean of the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, William Alfred Budden, DC, ND (a chiropractor and naturopath). The timing was terrible, for the U.S. stock market crash and the onset of the Great Depression were only nine months away. Dr. Budden would struggle for years to keep the school afloat, eventually re-chartering the institution as the non-profit Western States College, including instruction leading to degrees in chiropractic and naturopathy. During his tenure at the reins of the institution (he died "in the saddle" in 1954), the Western States College, School of Chiropractic and School of Naturopathy, would exert a profound influence on the course of the profession, both through Budden's activities within the National Chiropractic Association's Council on Education (today's CCE), and by way of the several exceptional doctors he trained. In 1932 the Pacific Chiropractic College was reorganized and became Western States College and Drugless Physicians (1932 1956). The College also offered a degree in naturopathy from the mid-thirties through the mid-fifties. Now called the Western States Chiropractic College (1956 present). Western States College has struggled on through the decades since Buddens demise. The school eventually divorced itself from naturopathic education, as the NCA had been urging since 1939, but maintained a very broad instructional program. Chiropractic and naturopathy were taught together until about 1955 when the National Chiropractic Association stopped granting accreditation to schools that also taught naturopathy. In the mid-1950's, when Western States Chiropractic College in Portland decided to discontinue naturopathic training, Dr. Bastyr knew it was time to take action, so he and few colleagues decided to open a school in Seattle. In 1956 National College of Naturopathic Medicine was born and Dr. Bastyr and other practitioners became teachers. Dr. John Bastyr, the naturopathic physician for whom Bastyr University in Seattle is named. A chiropractor, Dr. John Bartholomew Bastyr, N.D., D.C (1912-1995), is credited with being the Father of Modern Naturopathic Medicine. Because of Bastyrs influence naturopaths have been at the forefront of the rebirth of homeopathy in this country. He made sure that homeopathy shared equal emphasis with nutrition, hydrotherapy and botanical medicine in naturopathic education. Dr. Bastyr considered manipulation the most important therapy in his practice. He immediately went on in his studies of choice and received doctorate degrees in naturopathy and chiropractic from Northwest Drugless Institute and Seattle Chiropractic College, respectively. He became licensed to practice naturopathic medicine in 1936. National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) is the oldest programmatically accredited naturopathic medical school in North America. NCNM had its beginnings in the early 1950's, in response to the termination of the naturopathic program at Western States Chiropractic College. Members of the profession from Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia planned the founding of the College and in May 1956, in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Sylvain Desforges

Making the Wedding More Memorable for the Groom

By Kathleen Terrana Much of the wedding plans have traditionally been focused on the bride and her family. While this is still true, modern grooms are getting more involved in selecting wedding colors, venues, reception sites, music and food. Fortunately, this new interest alleviates much of the pressure and stress for the bride. Likewise, she is going to make sure the wedding day is as memorable as possible for her new husband-to-be. In the past, many brides and grooms assumed that the ceremony performed would be based on the religious beliefs of the brides family. Now it is possible to incorporate elements of both faiths (should they be different) into your wedding. Many web sites advertise officiants who specialize in interfaith weddings. By honoring some of the religious traditions of his family, it will make a lasting impression about your commitment to your new husband. If the groom has children from a previous marriage, it would make his day more special if they were involved in the ceremony. Depending on the ages of the children, they could be a flower girl/ring bearer, read poetry or psalms, deliver a reading, perform music, or present the gifts as part of a religious ceremony. The reception at the music should reflect some of his favorite songs that are appropriate to the occasion. The centerpieces, favors, and even the cake can be decorated to reflect a particular interest or hobby that he enjoys. Imagine his surprise, when he goes to remove your garter, and sees it decorated with his favorite sports team! Make sure the grooms family is well represented in the wedding program, pictures, and toasts at the reception. If your relationship with your new in-laws needs work, this is the time to lay the framework for a new, solid relationship. He will love you for it! Shopping Tips for Collectible Figurines

By Monica Wogan Precious Moments collectible figurines are among the most popular in the world. Doe-eyed boys and girls made in pastel ceramics adorn the shelves, dressers, and display areas of countless homes. There are numerous types and styles of figurines that people can buy to build a personal collection in addition to the dolls and bears that so many shoppers enjoy. When shopping for your favorites, check to be sure that the item is genuine. Copycat manufacturers abound, much to a shopper's chagrin, so look at the signature label and sales tag to see if you are purchasing the collectible that you're after. If in doubt, ask the sales associate for assistance. Examine it carefully for cracks, stains, or other possible impurities that could make the piece ineligible for return if you find the problem after getting it home. Try to shop on a sale day. Often, there are special events advertised in the newspaper or on television to let consumers know that these special products will be available at reduced cost for a limited amount of time. Shopping these events can save you money while maintaining the high standard of quality that you are searching for. If a sale has not been advertised recently, you can check with your favorite stores to see if they know whether one will be coming up. Another option is to contact the manufacturer directly. You can visit the online Website or write a letter if you prefer. A telephone call to the toll-free number (if one is available) is another way to inquire about upcoming promotions or sales events as well as possible discounts. You can always check Ebay or Amazon as well if you don't mind buying used. With collectible items, this may not matter if you plan to hold on to the item for collector's purposes with a view to eventually selling valuable pieces. To get some ideas for starting a collection, visit specialty shops or ask a few friends or relatives for suggestions. You may prefer to do some online browsing by searching for "collectibles" and (add a subject word) to find items of personal interest. Then find a safe, attractive storage or display area for your new items. Continue to add pieces as funding becomes available. Over time, you will be able to enjoy the variance and value of your collection before selling it or passing it along to someone else who will enjoy it as much as you have. Choosing Water Garden Filter Systems For Water Both You And Your Fish Will Love

By Lee Dobbins Adding interest to your garden with a garden pond or water garden is a great idea, and one of the first things you should look at is a top-notch water garden filter system that can do the hard work for you. Highly chlorinated water kills the microorganisms that are found it in the soil. The unfortunate part about the previous statement is that those microorganisms are there for a reason. It is their task to protect the plant and the source where it gets its food. This is the very reason why home gardeners steer clear of chlorinated water. They prefer a healthier choice - cleaner water. By getting a filter system for their garden water, 85% of the chlorine from hose water is removed. The water from garden filter systems are also beneficial for bathing dogs. Children can also have fun with the sprinkler. In fact, it can also be used to wash cars. Water garden filter systems are necessities for gardening. You have nothing to worry about because they are completely non-toxic. Why would we suggest that this be the same water you used to your pets, children and car, if it were? Now, let us say that you have a man-made pond in your garden. This water garden filter system can also clean the water there. Not only will it do that, it will also protect the soil ecosystem in your pond. Imagine the beneficial insects you could have killed if you thoroughly cleaned your man-made pond using chlorinated water. At least, with a water garden filter system, the 20,000 to 40,000 gallons of water are 100% clean. Just like any electronic appliance, water garden filter systems can be recharged. The filters can also be replaced in due time - when it has acquired all dirt from the pond and needs to be changed. Choose a water garden filter system that comes with the hose protector. In that way, maintaining it will be a whole lot easier. There are water garden filter systems that already include a pre-filtered hose. This is to control the flow of the water better. Most home gardeners ask why they should remain chlorine in their garden. Obviously, you would want to keep the beneficial insects in the natural ecosystem. Chlorine kills living organisms like bacteria and fungi but at the same time, it also contaminates the water source. Chlorine is harmful to your plants primarily because they depend on these organisms to stay alive. Plants survive because they receive the nutrients they need from the soil and water. A healthy soil is composed of molds, fungi and bacteria (which chlorine is designated to kill.) Gardeners and farmers know that in order to protect their plants and the ecosystem from the pesky pests, diseases and insects is by using beneficial bacteria. By using chlorinated water, the microorganisms that were placed in the soil to protect the plant and the plants food source in the first place will also be killed. Thus, horticulturists and farmers do not use chlorinated water when they irrigate their crops. Thanks to the water garden filter system, water is dechlorinated. This is a better and healthier option because water garden filter systems clean the garden and save the beneficial bacteria through out the process. Water garden filter systems turns chlorine into chloride that is completely harmless. This redox procedure is their basic principle on how they can assure their consumers that the water coming out of the system is totally chlorine-free. So after watering your garden with the chlorine-free filter system, throw in a bath for our dogs. In fact their coats can become softer and finer from the brittle and dryness it had been due to sun and chlorine exposure. You can also let your children have fun all summer long with the garden hose feature attached to your water garden filter system. They can even swim in a pool that you filled using the filter system. If you are an automobile fiend and the usual wax is not enough to give your baby the sparkle and shine it deserves, switch to dechlorinated water that you can obtain from the water garden filter systems. From the original purpose of providing chlorine-free water to your garden, water from filter systems has escalated to new heights. Diversity - Better for Business

By Samira Belmekki There is no doubt that we now live in one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse societies in the world. Canadas workforce has become a reflection of our ever-changing world and marketplace. It has been shown that companies whose employees mirror societys diversities can proficiently understand and meet the needs of the countrys multicultural market. Here are three of the main reasons why forward-looking companies are adopting diversity hiring policies: Group problem-solving and productivity: A workforce consisting of qualified individuals with different genders, race, ethnicity, culture, education, age, lifestyles and abilities are more apt to find creative solutions to difficult problems. Divergent inputs will often prompt staff to explore diverse point of views. The number of alternative solutions that an organization may be willing to consider and implement will allow that company to successfully anticipate and respond to the needs of a complex market. Connecting with the consumer: A diverse workforce generates more opportunities to understand and satisfy the needs of a diverse community of consumers. This will create opportunities leading to significant increases in sales and profits. Organizations who understand their consumers needs are better equipped to offer the right service and/or product. This translates into improved sales and good relationships with customers and suppliers. Improved public relations: Being known as a company with good hiring practices strengthens a companys image as a solid and caring corporate citizen. In addition, such companies will attract very talented employees. The competition for the best people is intense. By encouraging the participation of qualified people who traditionally have been under-represented in our workforce - persons with disabilities, visible minorities, Aboriginal people and women, companies will attract qualified candidates who are the key to any businesss competitive edge. Here are some examples on how to diversify your workforce: 1. Hire someone with a disability According to Statistics Canada Some 3,601,000 Canadians have a disability (one in eight), 9.9 percent among working-age adults (15 to 64), and 31.2 percent among seniors 65 to 74 years of age this rate; When employers hire qualified employees with disabilities, they discover untapped skills, talents and enthusiasm. Employees with disabilities can relate better to customers with disabilities who represent $25 billion in annual aggregate consumer spending according to study published by the Conference Board of Canada Employees with disabilities can also help companies develop services and products to address the needs of the market. Companies that hire people with disabilities are also viewed positively by the community at large and are seen acting in a socially responsible manner. 2. Hire from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds: Immigration and ethnic diversity are very important characteristics of Canada; there are approximately four million people from visible minorities in Canada. In order to appeal to this diverse consumer population, businesses need to have employees that can get the message out to those groups. Employees that can understand the factors that impact the diversity purchasing decisions and who can understand the differences in these groups can tap into huge markets. Employees with different values, cultures, and religious beliefs will better mirror the diverse make-up of the community and customers and will be able to respond to market changes. Customer Service departments need to have a diversity in employees. This increases the possibility that a customer will get someone who understands their concerns resulting in higher customer satisfaction and loyalty. Companies that have the ability to speak different languages have a better opportunity to globalize their business and to tap into hidden markets. 3. Hire both genders: Women have proven to impact the bottom line according to a recent Catalyst study; The Bottom Line: Connecting Corporate Performance and Gender Diversity. Companies with the highest representation of women in top management positions delivered 35.1 percent more return on equity and 34 percent more total return to shareholders than companies with the lowest representation. As consumers, women buy or influence at least 80 percent of all household spending. Women-owned businesses are one of the fastest-growing industry segments in Canada. Business with women employees should be able to best understand and respond and to appeal to female consumers. In conclusion, today, the success and well-being of any business requires a diverse workforce bringing a fresh ideas and perspectives. This will leave the organization well placed to respond innovatively to the demands of Canadas rich and multicultural society and better ensure the ongoing success of the business. Its just common sense. Samira Belmekki is President and Founder of For Her Success Career management center for professional women. Further the traditional way of purchasing products would involve a trip to the shopping mall, where persistent salesperson would make sure that the consumer purchases a product about which detailed information is hardly available.Another issue which cannot be overlooked is the time management factor. With 24 hours not sufficient for fulfilling all responsibilities, the customer would not be able to devote more than one day to go visit a mall, have a look at all brands ,compare with the rival brands and choose what best suits their budget and skin ofcourse! However a wise alternative to this procedure is to just log on to the website of their favorite brand and the rest will be a cakewalk. Using Article Marketing To Make Money

By Chris Rohrer One of the first ways I started to market online and earn an extra income was from what is called article marketing. I had little money to invest into advertising and someone told me about article marketing, and how powerful it was, and they recommend that I started writing articles to promote my business. So what Im going to teach you here today is how you can use articles just like this one you are reading to make money with your home business. Most people think writing an article is a very hard. Actually it is a very easy process if you follow these simple steps. First write about stuff you already know. Or if you want to write about something you have little or no knowledge about then you must simply go out and research it a little bit, and read what other people wrote about it. After that you should have a fairly good understanding of what it is you where trying to learn, and you should be able to write up a very simple article on it. Important things not to do in your articles are that you dont really want to sell people anything in your articles. You want to give them information that can help them. People love information that is going to help them accomplish what they want to do. A well-written article that is very helpful will get picked up by a lot of directories, which will then in return spread your article around for even more people to see and read. So now you might be wondering well how do you use articles to make money if you cant sell people in your article? The answer to that question is simple. For every article you write there will always be a resource box or an about author box where you can enter in information about your self, or your business that you might run. That is where you will then want to place a small little sales pitch. If your article was good, and people liked it more then likely then will click your link, because they want to see what else you have come up with. To make even more money from writing articles you can invest a little money for an article submission program. These places will submit your article for you to hundreds of article directories for you, which will help, increase how many people view your article. Some places I know of off the top of my head are submityourarticle.com, and articlemarketer.com these are two of the best places that I know of. Student Loans Research Before You Borrow

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Dean_Shainin]Dean Shainin It is important for you to know that student loan lenders may vary on different areas like interest rates, offers and terms and conditions. It is best to research some selected lenders and compare what they offer to make sure that you will get the student loan that suits your needs and gives you the financial flexibility. As you may know, student loans are todays largest form of student aid. The student loan debt is even todays one of the major problems of most student borrowers. Take Time To Research Before Your Borrow Many people find it easy to rush through the student loan process. Before you consider borrowing a student loan for your college, think first how much loan you really need. Just borrow what is enough.
There are several options available for student loan borrowers. Note that the lower the interest rate, the less pricey the student loan is. Student Loans To Consider Federal Perkins Loans Federal Subsidized Stafford or Direct Loans Federal Unsubsidized Stafford or Direct Loans Alternative or Private Loans As you may know, most of the students thinking for student loans have access to a special loan source these days. These sources should be considered, like the Air Force Aid Society, have student loans terms that are comparable to the Perkins or Subsidized Stafford or Direct Loans. Federal PLUS Loans Private Loans or Alternative Loans Try to estimate your student loan payments before you borrow.
Always note that as a student loan borrower, you are not required to take the full amount of the loan you have been offered. Dont ever forget about student employment as an alternative for borrowing. Apply for the student loan right away. As mentioned, planning and thinking your moves for taking out student loans is very necessary for a successful borrowing. Questions To Ask Before Your Get A Student Loan Typically, they offer information about financing your degree, the importance of good credit, managing your student loans while in school, and even repaying your student loans. Be sure the ask questions about these important factors. Under the accepted standards of borrowing student loans, it is stressed that you can borrow up to the cost of attendance, as determined by your school, less other financial assistance you might be receiving. You Are A Diamond So Scrapbook About Yourself

By Fion Lim As a devoted scrapper, you probably gain satisfaction from scrapbooking about others. Oftentimes, you are the one glaring missing light in your scrapbook albums. Simply because you're so caught up with hiding behind the camera and being a fixated shutterbug. Either that or you're tied up scrapbooking about others that you missed out on scrapbooking about yourself. Somehow, it's happening too frequently. Ever thought about why you should take a step back and start scrapbooking about yourself? Ever wonder how scrapbooking about "you" could bring out the shine in you? Come on, you are special, there's no way to deny it. Rare like a diamond. Just probably covered up in layers and needed some polishing to bring out the natural shine. And scrapbooking is a powerful method to reveal the rareness in you. There's so many glowing benefits to creating scrapbooks all about you: 1) Leaving Behind an Everlasting Legacy For the people who will never get the chance of meeting and knowing you, your scrapbooks about yourself will leave behind memories of you as a person. It's a mean of letting them discover and know about you. I once read of a mother who was seized with terminal stage of cancer. In her final days, instead of resting, she struggled to put together scrapbook albums of herself. Why? Just so that her two very young toddlers will get to know about the mommy whom they'll never see in person again. The scrapbooks will be constant reminders to the kids of their mommy's love for them and her thoughts about them. It's a heart-wrenching story, but it's a wake up call that you don't have an eternity. You have to take steps now to make time to leave behind a part of who you are. Like they said, "You'll never know"... 2) Showing the World of You as an Individual Yes, besides being known as the scrapbooker who so lovingly and tenderly put together the family scrapbooks, your children and present or future grandchildren would want to know how you look like. They'll wonder "How did Granny Kate look like when she's a baby? And what did she look like when she's a young woman?" You're likely to have the same curiosity of your ancestors too. So do showcase your changing faces or appearances throughout the years or decades. Come out from behind your camera, and ask or plead with someone else to take over the role of the photographer. You are important and you need to be in those pages. 3) Revealing the Real You By scrapbooking, you'll immortalize a part of yourself in a permanent way. And through reading your journaling, others will get to know you in an intimate sort of way. You are granting them permission to be privy to your inner world of thoughts, which are usually hidden by the superficialities of your daily life. Your journaling will reveal the authentic side of you that many may not have the privilege to know of otherwise. Do consider leaving those alluring computer fonts aside for a while, and write in your own handwriting. It may not be perfect but it's much more personal. Your handwriting is undeniably a part of you. 4) Passing on Your Beliefs and Values Worried that your values and beliefs will be lost forever to your future generations? Scrapbooking about them is a great way to ensue that they'll get passed on from one generation to the next. "Great-grandma Emily is a strong believer of filial piety. It's her strongest trait..." Your scrapbook albums will likely become treasured family keepsakes, where your words will echo and impact on your future generations lives. 5) Pulling You Out from a Crossroad There's probably times in your life when you feel uncertain and lost about yourself. It's like your identity has gone missing. I've been at such a crossroad before too. At such disheartening moments, try scrapbooking on themes like "What Makes Me So Unique", "The Many Hats That I wear" and "Top 10 Things that I'm Most Proud". These themes will once again call attention to your own uniqueness. Such meaningful pages will reinforce the value in you as an individual. If you're daring enough, try "10 Things I Like About You". This is where you'll have to get a couple of your closest kin and friends to each make a list of things they like about you. You'll have to cast away your shyness and get those lists from the people you care about. Because someday when you feel like you're in the dumps, pull out these precious little lists, read over them and call to your mind that you are wanted and loved by others. So instead of dwelling on your failures and imperfections, these powerful lists will push you forward and make you look at the positive traits of yourself. 6) Pump You Up with Pride When you're done with some scrapbooks on yourself, flip through them occasionally. You'll find yourself looking at you with a renewed sense of respect and pride. Be it as a mother, nurturer, wife, partner, daughter, sister, colleague or dreamer, your scrapbook albums will showcase you in different roles. It'll tell others that you aren't merely just a mom. The pages will remind you that you have meaningful contributions to make in various roles. Are you beginning to see the therapeutic wonders of scrapbooking about yourself? Doesn't it reaffirm the goodness within you and unleash the power of you being a diamond? Aren't the above reasons compelling enough to cajole you into scrapbooking about yourself? Each delayed moment is a moment lost forever. So take positive steps now to uncover the diamond in you to share with others. Happy scrapping about yourself! About the Author:

Stress, Cortisol and Weight Gain

By Mikki Reilly Despite the abundance of information on diet and exercise in the media, Americans are continuing to get fatter. According to a recent analysis, an estimated 30 percent of adults - over 60 million - are obese, defined as having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, and, an estimated 65 percent of adults are overweight or obese, defined as having a BMI of 25 or higher. While increased food portion sizes, consumption of high-fat fast foods, and lack of exercise are the most common reasons cited for the overweight and obesity epidemic, another possible explanation is a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol is produced in the adrenal glands in response to the secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) in the pituitary. Metabolically, cortisol increases the concentration of blood glucose by converting amino acids into carbohydrates (gluconeogenesis), inhibiting glucose uptake, and breaking down lipid stores into adipose tissue (lipolysis). Cortisol, Stress and Weight Gain Cortisol is known as the "stress hormone" and is secreted in response to all forms of stress. These include environmental stress (heat, cold, and noise, etc.), psychological stress (worry, fear, etc.), chemical stress (pollution, drugs, etc.), biochemical stress (nutritional deficiencies, simple sugar consumption, etc.), and physical stress (overexertion, trauma, and infection, etc.).
During the "fight or flight" response, the adrenal glands secrete large quantities of adrenal cortical hormones. These hormones mobilize the body's energy supplies and direct all of the body's resources toward survival. This response worked well when our primitive ancestors actually faced life threatening situations, but is not well suited for today's modern world since most stressful situations do not require us to fight or run away. The body's response to modern stressful situations causes problems because although there's no physical activity in response to the "threat," cortisol signals the body to refuel as though there was. This signal to refuel, or increased appetite, leads to weight gain in the chronically stressed. Ways To Reduce Cortisol Exercise: Aerobic exercises such as running, roller blading, cycling and cross-country skiing increase the production of endorphins. Endorphins ("endogenous morphine") interact with the opiate receptors in the brain to reduce the perception of pain much like the effect of morphine or codeine. Endorphins also produce an overall feeling of euphoria, commonly known as the "runners high," in response to prolonged exercise. These chemicals counteract the harmful effects of stress by lowering cortisol levels. Avoid overconsumption of simple carbohydrates: Eating simple carbohydrates without proteins or fats to slow down the absorption rate causes the body to generate a strong insulin response which can produce a dramatic drop in blood sugar several hours after the meal was eaten. A fall in blood sugar triggers the secretion of cortisol. This situation can be avoided by eating balanced meals which include proteins, fats and fiber along with carbohydrates. Rest: Get enough sleep. Chronic sleep deprivation increases stress and makes weight gain more likely. Researchers have found that those between 32 and 59, who slept four hours or less per night, were 73 percent more likely to be obese than those who slept between seven and nine hours per night. Practice stress reduction techniques: Techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, mindfulness, and yoga are effective methods of stress reduction.
